Yaskawa Motoman: Six-Axis HC10 Collaborative Robot (Cobot)

Yaskawa Motoman’s six-axis HC10 cobot works safely with or near humans by stopping in the event of contact with an operator. Through-arm utilities hide cabling and increase safety by reducing the risks of snagging or interference with other equipment. The cobot has a 10 kg payload and 1,200 mm reach. It can perform a range of material handling, machine tending, packaging and light assembly tasks.

Users can hand guide the cobot to teach it new programme paths. Its compact YRC1000 controller measuring 598 × 490 × 427 mm reduces space requirements and a single controller-to-robot cable improves reliability.

WPV10 and WPV20 are the latest insert grades that Walter USA has introduced to its Perform line of turning tools. Designed for versatility and cost-effectiveness, they cater to users whose machines are limited in cutting parameters. These resourceful inserts can handle different materials, as well as machines that come in small or medium sizes.

Both grades have chemical vapour deposition coating and gold colour for easy wear detection. In field testing, the inserts demonstrated superior process reliability and good chip control with tool life increases of up to 100 percent when compared to their counterparts.

Tungaloy has successfully designed the insert of its TungForce Rec line of end mills with a “V” bottom that fits into a mating “V” bottom pocket on the tool. This design removes much of the centrifugal forces from the screw, putting the forces into the rigid pocket and allowing much higher revolutions per minute. It also allows for a larger screw of manageable size which increases the stability of the insert. As compared to solid carbide end mills, these features equate to higher metal removal rates.

It is available with a modular head that can use a carbide shank, thereby matching the reach capabilities of solid carbide at a fraction of the price.

Sumitomo Electrical Carbide AC8000P have made available a series of three grades for steel turning to meet a range of application requirements. They feature an Absotech platinum Chemical Vapour Deposition coating for longer tool life and an overall cost reduction in steel cutting.

The AC8015P grade offers good wear resistance during high-speed, high-efficiency steel cutting.

Designed to be reliable during general purpose steel cutting, the AC8025P grade’s special surface treatment results in improved tool surface smoothness and increased adhesion and chipping resistance.

Finally, the AC8035P grade provides stability during interrupted steel cutting. Its surface treatment reduces residual tensile stress in the coating for increased fracture resistance.

The MR-J4-GF servo amplifier by Mitsubishi Electric Automation has been integrated with safety features of CC-Link IE Field, an open, 1-gigabit industrial Ethernet automation network, facilitating industrial communication.

With these features and the optional MR-D30 card, the servo amplifier meets international safety standards for Category 4 PLe SIL3. The 1-gigabit-per-second data transfer rate is said to provide the speed and capacity for Industry 4.0.

Other features include one-touch tuning and 2.5-kHz speed frequency response to reduce settling time and minimize overshooting. It contains a failure prediction and diagnosis function that monitors and detects age-related changes in machine performance based on its friction and vibrations.

Mazak’s Variaxis i-300 simultaneous five-axis vertical machining centre (VMC) includes a high-capacity auto work changer for flexibility and efficiency. Designed for automated small- to medium-size part-processing operations, the VMC is suited for machining aluminium and other nonferrous metals for various industries, including aerospace, medical and automotive.

The machine comes with a multiple-drum tool storage system that holds as many as 145 tools, enabling continuous unattended operation and single-setup—Done-in-One processing. It is loaded with a 12,000-rpm spindle allowing speeds as fast as 30,000 rpm, complemented with the MX hybrid roller guide system to ease the machine’s use and increase precision.

Available software solutions include the Smooth Energy Dashboard to help shops meet sustainability goals and Smooth Thermal Shield to calibrate temperature.

Kasto’s sawing system for additively manufactured parts, the KastoWin AMC, is an automatic band saw designed for individual offcuts of additively manufactured components. The saw’s 180 deg turning device rotates workpieces, decreasing wear on the saw blade. An intelligent control system of only allowing small quantities through its cutting channel, results in increased productivity, efficiency, precision and safety in its cutting process.

The SmartControl controller and job wizard, which comes standard, enables the machine to operate with minimal manual intervention and shuts off when it reaches the end of the cut.

The band saw has a standard cutting range of 400 × 400 mm, accompanied by a lubrication system with automatic monitoring to provide cooling for its high cutting speeds.
