Tongtai Machine & Tool Company, a machine tool supplier in Taiwan, has collaborated with Optomec, a supplier of production grade additive manufacturing (AM) systems for 3D printed metals and electronics. The partnership will have Tongtai integrating Optomec’s lens print engine and adding 3D metal printing capability to its additive manufacturing-hybrid (AMH) 350 and computer numerical control (CNC) machines.
The lens print engine delivers 3D metal printing technology in a modular format for rapid integration with metal working platforms such as CNC mills, lathes, robots, custom gantries, or even laser cutting and welding systems. Its components include powder feeders, closed loop process control, fibre laser, and tool path generation software.
“Partnering with one of Taiwan’s largest machine tool companies is a major milestone for Optomec in our efforts to expand the benefits of additive manufacturing,” said Dave Ramahi, president and chief executive officer of Optomec. “The new Tongtai hybrid additive manufacturing machine will lower costs to accelerate industrial adoption of metal additive manufacturing in Asia.”
Yen Jui-Hsiung, chairman of Tongtai, said that the partnership with Optomec will enable customers to cost-effectively integrate lens print engine functionally into their machines and manufacturing process.
