Collins Aerospace Expands Additive Capability With SLM Solutions

Brings recorded total of systems sold to 13 units since announcement

Collins Aerospace purchases an NXG Xll 600 fromSLM Solutions for its facility in West Des Moines, Iowa. The facility is a world leader in the design and manufacture of engine nozzles, and it is now bringing that manufacturing expertise to additive manufacturing. The new printer will assist the company in producing additively manufactured aerospace parts more quickly.

Aerospace systems could benefit from additive manufacturing in a variety of ways, including improved performance, reduced weight and volume, lower costs, shorter lead times, and optimized designs. Collins is one of the first ten customers in the world to purchase an NXG Xll 600, and the acquisition demonstrates the company’s commitment to additive manufacturing as it works to optimize production and provide additional value to its customers.

Gerhard Bierleutgeb, Executive Vice President of Global Services and Solutions at SLM Solutions, remarks on the successful continuous relationship between the two companies said, “Collins Aerospace and SLM Solutions have been operating several SLM Solutions machines in different locations around the globe for a number of years now. The procurement of the latest generation NXG XII 600 shows that both parties have successfully managed to service and operate this technology in an aerospace production environment.”

Built specifically for serial production, the NXG Xll 600 is an industry game-changer that boasts speeds 20x faster than standard single laser machines. Its large build envelope, sized at 600x600x600, is attractive to industries with demanding and cutting-edge applications.

This is the third time in four weeks that a major end-user has bought SLM Solutions’ NXG Xll 600. Just last week it was MAN Energy Solutions who invested in NXG XII 600.

Collins Aerospace: Collins Aerospace, a Raytheon Technologies subsidiary, is one of the world’s largest suppliers of aerospace and defense products, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States.
