Metalysis Partners With Mkango To Develop 3D Printed Magnets For EVs

Rotherham, UK and Calgary, Canada: UK-based metal and alloy materials producer Metalysis and Canada-based mineral exploration and development company Mkango Resources have signed a deal to research, develop and commercialise rare earth metal alloys.

Rare earth metal alloys are key parts in 3D printed permanent magnets, which is a critical component of many electric vehicles.

William Dawes, chief executive officer, Mkango Resources, said: “We are very pleased to collaborate with Metalysis. The research and development programme will seek to enhance marketing flexibility, increase future margins and affirm the company’s competitive positioning.”

The partnership will see the mineral exploration and development company’s expertise on the performance characteristics of rare earth magnets combine with the disruptive solid-state metal powder manufacturing technology from the metal and alloys materials producer—which can be used in the metal powders market, including 3D printing.
