Munich, Germany: The Siemens Power and Gas division and Chromalloy Gas Turbine Corporation, a supplier of parts and services for gas turbines used in aviation and land-based applications, have entered a partnership to form a joint venture called Advanced Airfoil Components.
The joint venture’s scope focusses on turbine blades and vane cast components for power generation. Both partners are investing approximately US$139 million in combined value for a new production facility in the Tampa area in Florida, US.
Chromalloy currently operates an investment casting foundry for aerospace turbine components in Tampa. The plant produces a range of parts for turbofan aircraft engines as well as a separate adjacent plant producing cores to support the investment casting plant.
Siemens Power and Gas supplies engineering, procurement and construction services to utilities and independent power producers, with products that include gas turbines (5 to 400 MW), steam turbines (45 kW to 1,900 MW), generators (25 to 2,235 MVA), and compressors, as well as integrated packages for gas-fired power plants.
The venture will see parts supplied to Siemens exclusively, and the initial delivery of finished parts from the venture is scheduled to start by this year.
