Global 3D Printed Metals Market To Exceed US$2 Million By 2023

The 3D printing metals market is projected to grow from US$ 590.4 million in 2018 to US$ 2,089.7 million by 2023, at a CAGR of 28.8 percent from 2018 to 2023.

This can be attributed to an increasing application of 3D printing in the aerospace and defense industry, especially for the manufacturing of aircraft engines and components, as well as the expiry of various technology patents. Based on end-use industry, the aerospace and defense industries are the largest drivers of growth of 3D metal printing and will continue to grow the most during the forecast period. The industry’s specific requirement for lightweight and high strength components, with accurate and precise designs makes 3D printing an ideal technology to be implemented. Furthermore, metals like stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium are used extensively in this industry as they can withstand high temperatures and are resistant to wear and tear. This means that the demand for high strength materials to manufacture complex geometries is the specific factor driving the tremendous growth of the 3D printing metals market for the aerospace and defense end-use industry segment.

German Precision Tools “Pleased” With Economic Development In 2017

Frankfurt, Germany: “We are pleased with the seven percent increase in sales generated by the precision tools industry in 2017. The industry has thus significantly exceeded the 10 billion euro (US$12.4 billion) mark. We expect a five percent growth in 2018.” said Lothar Horn, chairman of the VDMA Precision Tools Association, at a recent conference in Frankfurt, Germany.

TaeguTec: ChaseMold RTMX And RTHX Five-cutting Edge Insert Lines

TaeguTec has launched two new five-cutting edge insert lines – the RTMX and RTHX – with related cutters dedicated to stainless steel and difficult-to-cut materials used.

The RTMX is a press-to-size type line, while the RTHX ground type is dedicated towards high precision machining. Both lines offer a high positive rake angle for low cutting resistance.

Both inserts come in 10 and 12 millimetre sizes. Their chip formers are available in three types: MM, ML and MLL. The MM chip former is recommended for unstable conditions, MLL for stable conditions and ML covers the middle range between the MM and MLL types.

Both lines are available in standard and special grades. The special grades are made for any machining environment, even under harsh conditions due to their high wear resistance and toughness capabilities.

Cutters are available in end mills (ø32 mm), modular types (ø25-40 mm) as well as face mills (ø40-80 mm) and all are coolant capable for easy chip evacuation.

Sandvik Coromant has taken another step in the development of fine boring technology by introducing CoroBore 826, a groundbreaking high-precision (HP) coolant tool for trouble-free machining and close hole tolerances.

Machine stops caused by chip tangling around the tool or spindle are a common problem in fine boring. With the high-precision nozzle, CoroBore 826 HP directs the high-precision coolant jet to the cutting edge in order to efficiently control and break the chip. Chips are then easily evacuated from the hole. Combined with the user-friendly stepwise scale setting of the tool diameter provides the perfect tool for accurate fine boring.

CoroBore 826 HP is the ideal first choice fine boring tool for requirements in the range of 36–1260 mm (1.417–49.606 inch). It is optimised for process repeatability, hence ensuring excellent surface finish and close hole tolerances.
