Long Tool Life In Series Production

Walter TC470 Supreme thread former with HiPIMS coating. With the TC470 Supreme, Walter is introducing a thread former especially for the requirements of series manufacturers – longer tool life, higher productivity and better process reliability.

Its geometry has more forming edges than comparable thread formers. The HiPIMS coating and the new type of tool pre- and post-treatment reduce edge wear and increase tool edge life. This enables higher machining parameters and increases productivity. The very smooth yet hard HiPIMS coating significantly reduces the torque. This, in turn, has a positive impact on the surface quality.

The TC470 Supreme has been developed for machining steel materials (ISO P). In practice, it has also produced similarly good results in aluminium (ISO N). A long tool life, high machining parameters and very good process reliability make the thread former appealing to mass producers such as those in the automotive industry. Users can choose from a large product range. Walter is offering the TC470 Supreme in four variants: With or without lubrication grooves and/or internal coolant, as well as with radial or axial coolant outlet, optimised for long and short threads. Dimension range (metric) M3–M10 or (metric fine) M10 × 1–M16 × 1.5 and for thread depths up to 3.5 × DN.

EMUGE: Quick Tool Change At The Touch Of A Button

The tap holder EMUGE Softsynchro SnapLock allows a quick and keyless change of the threading tool directly in the machining centre without removing the holder. Ideal for limited magazine space and frequent tool changes.

Pressing the locking button releases the threading tool. The next tool can be inserted quickly and without tools. The tool only requires a circular groove in the shank, which ensures a secure hold through positive-locking clamping and which EMUGE can place into the required threading tools.

The slim SnapLock holder complements the family of Softsynchro holders as a quick-change version and is available in two versions. They differ in their length adjustment, which is integrated in the SnapLock L version and simplifies tool presetting. The length of the holder with the tool can be varied up to 3 mm.

In both versions the well proven Softsynchro minimum length compensation is integrated, which transmits the torque separately from the undesired axial force and thus compensates for axial errors in thread production in the best possible way. Both versions are also designed for internal coolant supply up to 50 bar and have an integrated seal on the tool shank.

The quick-change holder allows the use with threading tools from M4.5 to M12 and is available for common machine connections.

New Geometry And Special Post-Treatment Increase Tool Life of Walter Thread Former

Walter AG has expanded its range of threading tools with the release of the TC410 Advance HSS-E thread former with TiN coating and a new geometry, which can be used universally for blind and through-hole threads (metric, metric fine, UNC/UNF and G), all formable materials from the ISO material groups P, M and N as well as for ISO K and S as a secondary application.

The tool’s new geometry and special post-treatment help reduce the cutting time in the material—hence reducing friction and, consequently, the amount of heat generated, which in turn reduces wear and ultimately increases the edge life of the tool. Likewise, the post-treated, extremely smooth surface of the tool reduces the torque and increases the tool life as a result.

Walter’s TC410 Advance is available in two variants: without lubrication grooves or with lubrication grooves for deeper threads up to 3.5 × DN. The tool is suitable for users with medium to large batch sizes in particular, because it can produce more threads with the same tool.
