Tungaloy Adds Longer Flutes To Popular TungMeister Exchangeable-Head End Milling System

Tungaloy has announced that its TungMeister series of exchangeable-head end milling system now includes long-flute end milling heads and new high-rigidity shank holders.

With TungMeister, significant reduction in tool changeover time can be achieved through the ability to replace used heads instead of an entire tool. Since it takes no more than one minute for tool exchange, setup time can be significantly reduced to as short as one tenth of the time it would typically take to replace solid carbide end mills for maximum productivity and cost effectiveness.

Responding to market demands, TungMeister now offers a range of VEH-style square shoulder end milling heads whose maximum cutting depth (APMX) is twice the length of that of the existing range. This provides the new VEH head with a capability of 1.5xD. Its variable-pitch and variable-helix cutting edge design, combined with tapered core geometry, will enhance the tool’s chatter stability while machining at demanding depths of cut.
The new VSSD-style shank holder is offered with thicker shank diameters than those of the existing range, increasing the tool’s flexural rigidity by 200 percent to 320 percent for added more reliable and productive machining.

With over 13,000 possible head-shank combinations available, TungMeister is able to readily provide tooling flexibility that enables users to find a solution for almost every application.
Ten VEH-style end milling heads and five VSSD-style shank holders are added in this expansion.

Tungaloy Revs Up Turning Efficiency in Heat-Resistant Superalloys With New Ceramic Insert Grades

Tungaloy has unveiled two new ceramic insert grades: TS200 and TS300 that are developed for performing high-speed, high-efficiency turning operations of heat-resistant superalloys. The company has also introduced dedicated turning toolholders with a T-style insert clamp that are designed to securely hold the ceramic inserts to withstand demanding operations.

TS200 and TS300 are both SiAlON ceramic grades that are designed to perform high-speed turning operations of HRSAs common in aerospace, power generation and oil and gas industries. The TS200 is suitable for finishing processes; while the TS300 is ideal for removing oxide layer and other roughing operations.

The dedicated turning toolholders feature a unique T-style insert clamp with a carbide plate attached. This plate holds the ceramic insert securely in place in the seat to provide process security during demanding operations.

Tungaloy Eliminates Coolant Hose Connections with TungTurn-Jet

Tungaloy has expanded its TungTurn-Jet solution, a high pressure coolant turning tool system, to include coolant-through toolholders and PSC/VDI (DIN69880) adapters. This combination eliminates the need for hoses, fittings and spare parts that are commonly needed for coolant-through tooling.

The TungTurn-Jet system strategically directs the internal coolant jet to an optimal position, close to the cutting point on the insert rake face. This provides effective chip control especially during the machining of exotic materials, which is not the case with conventional external coolant supply methods. The holder also feeds the other coolant jet from the bottom to minimize flank wear for increased insert life and productivity.

The new TungTurn-Jet holder uses internal channels in the toolholder to deliver coolant supplied directly from the machine turret through the holder out to the nozzle, streamlining tool handling and setup for reduced machine downtime. Since there is no need for conventional external hoses to be set up, chip bird-nesting on the hoses are a thing of the past. The latest additions to the TungTurn-Jet system include TungModular system holders for grooving, parting, and thread-turning, as well as ISO external turning holders.

Tungaloy Makes Tool Centre Height Setting Easy

Tungaloy is expanding its BoreMeister series, a vibration-free deep boring tool system, to include a setting device for easy and systematic setup of the centre height.

BoreMeister is designed to ensure vibration-free boring operations in a long overhang setup of up to 10xD through a dampener inside the tool body. The majority of BoreMeister customers’ use these tools to eliminate chatter and other unstable elements during long overhang machining to gain productivity and surface integrity.

Setting the tool to the correct centre height is one of the important factors to achieve the right dimension tolerances and surface integrity of the component. The new setting device enables easy, systematic, and accurate settings of tool centre height. Its serrated interface with a magnetic locator in the centre makes attachment and detachment to the tool body easy and accurate.

The setting device comes in two sizes: AVC-SET16-25 covers BoreMeister diameters 16, 20, and 25 mm and AVC-SET32-60 diameters 32, 40, 50, and 60 mm.

Guide Pad Extends Tool Life Of Tungaloy’s Deep Hole Drills

Tungaloy has released FH3125, a new guide pad grade for its indexable deep hole drill series, including DeepTri-Drill, TRI-FINE, FINE BEAM, and UNIDEX. FH3125 is a new grade specifically developed to enhance the guide pad’s wear resistance in machining various materials.

The dedicated carbide substrate of the grade is designed to reduce guide pad breakage, providing long and predictable tool life in deep hole processes. The corners of both ends of the guide pad are designed to allow smooth entry into the guide bushing or pilot hole to control vibration impact and further decrease the risk of rupture.

Extremely wear resistant and featuring long tool life, the new guide pad grade ensures process reliability in various materials and secures drill entry into the guide bushing or pilot hole—thanks to a smart corner design on both ends.

The FH3125 is available in 13 models.

Tungaloy: Simplifying Swiss Lathe Operations With 10×12 mm Toolholders

Tungaloy is expanding its TungTurn-Jet series of turning toolholders by adding 10×12 mm shank designed specifically for the use on Swiss-type lathes enabling high-pressure coolant supply through the toolholder directly from the machine without an external coolant hose connection.

TungTurn-Jet toolholders deliver coolant strategically to the optimum position close to the cutting point of the insert. This significantly improves chip control when machining exotic materials that are prone to smearing by effectively breaking the chips into pieces and guiding them away from the cut, which was difficult using a traditional external coolant nozzle method. Additionally, TungTurn-Jet features a second coolant outlet from the insert clearance side which not only improves chip control but also helps minimise flank wear for increased insert life and productivity.

The new 10×12 mm shank toolholders are able to channel coolant directly from the machine tool into the tool holder and out through the nozzle. This technology can eliminate the need for an external coolant hose connection, which often causes unwanted chip accumulations in the tooling area that can easily stall production. The new toolholders provide internal coolant supply but can still be used with an external coolant hose.

The new toolholders can be used on any Swiss-type lathes that have 10x10mm positions on the turning tool post.  This addition, along with existing 12×12 mm and 20×20 mm shanks, now offer a complete range of TungTurn-Jet high pressure coolant-through solutions for Swiss-type lathe operations. The new toolholders are available for front-turning, grooving, parting, and thread-turning operations.

Tungaloy DuoJust-Cut’s New JXPS Insert Boosts Productivity In Parting Operations

Tungaloy is expanding DuoJust-Cut line of indexable parting tools to include JXPS inserts that features a pressed-in 3D chipbreaker for reliable chip control in during parting operations on Swiss-type lathes.

DuoJust-Cut features innovative insert clamping ensuring tool rigidity and stability in various parting operations. In addition to existing JXPG insert with a ground in chipbreaker on the rake face, the new JXPS insert incorporates a 3D chipbreaker pressed in to its “dual-rake” cutting edge which is designed to promote optimal chip control and evacuation without compromising surface integrity.

Four different types of DuoJust-Cut inserts fit in the same pocket of the tool holder, allowing an optimal insert cutting depth to be selected for a given application. An optional parting holder is also available when machining close to the sub-spindle is required.

Tungaloy Ceramic Insert Grade Conquers Turning of Cylinder Liners

Tungaloy Corp. has launched the TZ120 grade ceramic inserts designed for efficient machining of cast iron.

A zirconia-toughened aluminum oxide grade with superior thermal properties, TZ120 enables extended tool life and process security at high cutting speeds, making the grade ideal for high-speed, dry machining of centrifugally cast cylinder liners. The new grade will allow Tungaloy’s extensive line-up of ceramic insert grades to provide a variety of cast iron turning solutions at high speeds.

Its key properties include tough ceramic grade with chemical and thermal stability, providing excellent resistance to strong acids at elevated temperatures. The uniform distribution of the zirconia grains in the alumina matrix imparts superior fracture and notch wear resistance, preventing premature insert failure during demanding operations

Ideal for machining of centrifugally cast iron cylinder liners, the inserts are designed for dry machining only as the use of cutting fluids is detrimental to insert life.

Tungaloy Expands Exchangeable-Head Drill Series

Tungaloy’s DrillMeister exchangeable-head drill line now includes new TID type drills in cylindrical shanks that accommodate drill head diameters ranging from 10.0 mm to 19.9 mm (from .398″ to .783″).

Tungaloy DrillMeister features a unique self-locking interface that interlocks between the drill head and shank body, enabling a simple and quick tool exchange. Operators can replace the drill head without having to remove the drill body from the adapter or re-measure tool offset vales, thus saving time. The drill head can be easily assembled while remaining on the machine. The drill body incorporates strong helical flutes with polished surfaces for reliable chip evacuation. This feature is especially important in deep hole drilling applications where smooth chip evacuation is vital.

The new Tungaloy TID drills are offered with a cylindrical shank. A precision-ground cylindrical shank with no flats provides a close runout accuracy and high torque transmission when clamped with a full surface contact in a high-precision collet chuck, milling chuck, or hydro-chuck holder.

In addition, all the new drills have longer shank lengths (LS) than the existing TID drill lines. Longer shanks enable more flexible adjustment of a drill overhang length when being clamped in the holder.

Hole making operations often require drills with a flute length that is way longer than the hole depth to be machined, just to avoid a fixture or structural interference. The new Tungaloy TID drill can provide an extended drill overhang by shifting out the shank clamping position in the holder, while retaining a minimum flute length necessary for smooth chip evacuation and tool stability.

Enhanced with the new drill line, Tungaloy DrillMeister provides customers with high productivity, reduced of tool inventory and elimination of regrinding costs.

Tungaloy Expands Portfolio of Indexable Threading Tools for Swiss Lathe Users

Tungaloy has expanded its TungThread line of indexable threading tools to include 11ER external threading inserts as well as 8×8 mm and 10×10 mm square shank holders to accommodate the new inserts.

These new 11ER threading inserts and two square shank holders are specifically designed with users of Swiss type automatic lathes in mind. The 11ER insert is smaller than conventional 16ER inserts, and the insert holders are designed to ensure a minimum interference when machined towards the sub-spindle, which is an issue with a 16ER insert holder.

This Tungaloy expansion will enhance the TungThread series to meet the needs of various threading applications on Swiss type automatic lathes and other small-parts manufacturing equipment.

Thread types are available for ISO metric threads of 0.35-1.5 mm thread pitches, as well as V-profile 60 deg and 55 deg, partial profile.
