Tungaloy’s New NDL Geometry Makes Deep Holes Easier To Drill

Tungaloy is introducing NDL geometry for TOHT inserts for the DeepTri-Drill line of indexable gun drills.

Dedicated gundrilling machines do not allow conventional DeepTri-Drills to effectively evacuate chips from the cutting point due to relatively low drill feed capabilities. This often results in problematic chip evacuation. The new NDL cutting geometry addresses this issue with its optimised chipbreaker design that ensures good chip control during slow feeding motion of the drill.

The NDL geometry incorporates optimal chip breaker and splitters to provide the best chip evacuation when a high feed parameter is not available such as on gundrilling machines. Combined with the existing NDJ geometry which ensures superior deep-drilling performance at high feed rates, a comprehensive line of DeepTri-Drill is now able to better address the needs of customers seeking productivity and stability in every deep hole making operation.

Tungaloy Launches Indexable Thread Milling Line For Tapered Pipe Threads

Tungaloy has expanded its ThreadMilling series with the release of an indexable thread milling solution for tapered pipe threads.

The indexable thread milling system allows various types of threading insert(s) to be fitted on a single cutter body, making the operations extremely economical. With the new multipoint threading inserts and cutter bodies, thread milling for NPT and NPTF threads as well as BSPT thread are now possible on machining centres using its spiral interpolation feature.

Thread milling techniques, in many respects, offer greater advantages over tapping with reduced cutting loads for higher reliability. Solid carbide taps pose higher risk of tool breakage, while HSS taps offer shorter tool life. In addition, insert screws are designed not to detach from the cutter body when completely loosened during insert setup so operators will have no concern dropping or losing the tiny screws in the machine.

There are three types of tapered threads available: NPT (for 11.5 and 14 TPIs) and NPTF (for 14 TPI) of the US standard as well as BSPT (for 11 and 14 TPIs), which is common in Asian markets. The threading inserts provide higher reliability and longer tool life over tapping method, and eliminate concerns for dropping or losing tiny insert screws during tool setup.

Tungaloy Boosts Deep Hole Drilling Productivity

Tungaloy Boosts Deep Hole Drilling Productivity has expanded its Tungaloy DeepTriDrill line of indexable gun drills to include new drill diameters ranging from ø12mm to ø13.5mm. With new drill sizes in the lineup, Tungaloy DeepTriDrill can now address the diverse deep hole drilling needs of automotive and mould set parts for maximum efficiency and stability.

In addition, the drill diameter can easily be altered in increments of 0.01mm to the required hole sizes simply by placing dedicated adjusting shims beneath the guide pads, allowing an overall reduction of cycle time and manufacturing costs in diverse deep drilling applications. The H-class insert features unique cutting edge configuration that provides hole accuracy at greater feed rates, while also ensuring smooth chip evacuation.

The expanded line includes 12 drill bodies and one insert.

Tungaloy Strengthens Its Thread Milling Tool Range For Aerospace Threads

Tungaloy is expanding its solid carbide thread milling tools in the SolidThread family to include new lines enhancing aerospace machining center applications.

The new lines include the MTECS series with the aerospace UNJ and MJ internal thread profiles. Tungaloy is responding to increased aerospace demands with these offerings, covering a wide range of thread pitches and TPIs. In addition, free cutting single-point MTECI series is also being added with the internal ISO metric thread profile and internal/external 60 deg V profile. Low cutting force makes these single-point threading tools a great alternative when parts have poor stability with vulnerability to chatter or fine threads like M1x0.25.

With 22 new items in the SolidThread family, Tungaloy now offers a total of 293 items to address customers’ specific thread milling challenges and also the ThreadMilling Advisor, an on-line CNC code generator program able to create a wide range of thread milling programs, including UNJ and MJ threads for machining centers.

Tungaloy TungForce Rec End Mills

Tungaloy has successfully designed the insert of its TungForce Rec line of end mills with a “V” bottom that fits into a mating “V” bottom pocket on the tool. This design removes much of the centrifugal forces from the screw, putting the forces into the rigid pocket and allowing much higher revolutions per minute. It also allows for a larger screw of manageable size which increases the stability of the insert. As compared to solid carbide end mills, these features equate to higher metal removal rates.

It is available with a modular head that can use a carbide shank, thereby matching the reach capabilities of solid carbide at a fraction of the price.
